Gymnosperms
Gymnosperms are a taxonomic class that includes plants whose seeds are not enclosed in an ovule, like a pine cone. The four groups of gymnosperms are gnetophytes, cycads, ginkgoes, and conifers. Cycad plants are cone-bearing plants that grow in tropical and subtropical places. Cycads are dioecious plants which means there are separate male and female plants. The female plant produces seeds, and the male plant produces cones filled with pollen. They first appeared during the triassic period 225 million years ago. The last living Ginkgo species look still looks like its fossil ancestors! Ginkgo trees are seen in day to day life because they are usually planted for reasons relating to air pollution. This is because of their resistance to air pollution. Conifers include, but are not limited to, pines, spruces, firs, cedars, sequoias, redwoods, junipers, and yews.
